Our Fitness Inspired Training Method
Most dog training feels like guesswork – random YouTube videos, vague advice, and no clear plan. Canine Gains gives you structure: daily drills with sets and reps, just like a gym workout.
You’ll know exactly what to practice each day, when to increase difficulty, and when your dog is ready to move forward. No more wondering if you’re doing it right.
A Training System Designed For Real Life.
You don’t have hours to train every day. Our programs are built around short, focused sessions that fit into your actual schedule – 10 minutes in the morning, quick reps during lunch, or a focused drill after work.
Start in your living room where your dog can learn without distractions. Then gradually progress to your yard, your neighborhood, and eventually high-distraction environments like parks and hiking trails.
This isn’t about perfection in a training facility. It’s about building skills that work when you’re walking past squirrels, calling your dog at the dog park, or hiking off-leash on a trail.

MASTER THE FUNDAMENTALS
Skip The Fluff
We believe most dog training is bloated with unnecessary commands, advanced tricks, and skills you’ll never actually use. Dog owners don’t need 50 commands—they need to master four core skills that transform daily life.
Our mission is simple: give you a clear, structured path to communication, loose leash walking, and reliable recall. No distractions. No upsells to “advanced programs” you don’t need. Just the essentials, done exceptionally well.
What makes Canine Gains different from other dog training programs?
What makes Canine Gains different from other dog training programs?
Most programs give you theory and hope you figure out the execution. We give you both.
Dog training is physical—not just intellectual. You need to know where to position your body, how to handle the leash, when to stop or turn, and how to time your rewards. Without these physical skills, even the best theory won’t work.
Our programs break every technique into step-by-step drills with exact body mechanics, just like a workout routine. You’ll see exactly what to do with your hands, feet, and leash—not just hear abstract advice like “be consistent” or “reward good behavior.”
That’s why our students see results in weeks, not months. They’re not guessing—they’re executing a proven system.
Where does the "Sets" & "Reps" methodology come from?
The fitness-inspired approach was developed by Natasha Johnson after over a decade of working with dogs and teaching owners. She noticed that dog training had the same challenge as fitness: people understood the concepts but struggled with consistent execution.
By structuring training like a workout – with measurable sets, reps, and progressive difficulty – students had a clear roadmap. They knew what “done” looked like for each session, when to level up, and how to track progress over time.
The structure works because it removes guesswork and builds skills incrementally – just like strength training builds muscle.
Do I need to be in good physical shape to do this training?
Not at all. Our training doesn’t require athleticism – it requires technique. You’ll be standing, walking, and occasionally stopping or turning, but nothing strenuous.
The “fitness-inspired” part refers to the structure (sets and reps), not the physical demands. Even if you have mobility limitations, you can adapt the drills to your ability level. The key is consistency and correct technique, not physical strength or endurance.
If you have specific physical limitations, feel free to reach out before enrolling and we can discuss any necessary modifications.
Every dog learns at a different pace. How does your program handle that?
That’s exactly why we use sets and reps instead of rigid timelines.
Traditional programs say “practice for 2 weeks then move on” – but what if your dog needs 3 weeks? Or only 1 week? You’re either rushing ahead before they’re ready or holding back when they could progress faster.
Our structure is flexible: each drill has a target number of reps and a success criteria. Your dog breezes through? Move to the next level. Your dog needs more practice? Simply repeat the sets until they’re consistent. The structure stays the same, but the pace adapts to your dog.
You’re not locked into someone else’s timeline – you’re following your dog’s actual learning curve while still having clear guidance on what to practice and when to progress.
